Questions

How is this calculated?

We project the price per share at exit from the value per share today and the change in company value (price today × exit value ÷ value today). We count the shares that vest by the exit date under your company’s usual vesting schedule, and subtract the strike price for options. Unvested equity is the shares still vesting after the exit date.

Why is part of it “Ours”?

For engaged and married couples, we look at each batch of shares that vests by the exit date. A batch is earned over the time from your start date to the day it vests. The part of that time before the wedding is Mine (earned before marriage); the part during the marriage is Ours (earned during marriage). This is the time rule some courts use (In re Marriage of Nelson; DeJesus v. DeJesus). So a batch that vests after the wedding can still be partly Mine.

Why “could go either way”?

Shares vested before the marriage can grow in value during it. Whether that growth is shared depends on your state and your situation, so we show it separately instead of guessing.

Why don’t you show how Ours would be split?

Because no one can say how a judge would split it. That is the point of agreeing on your own rules with your partner.

Where do the numbers come from?

Company prices and values come from public filings, funding rounds, tender offers and press reports, collected in November 2026. Every prefilled number is an estimate you can change. When you don’t know your partner’s share count, we estimate it from typical grants for their role level and start year.

Do you store my data?

We save your answers and results so you can come back to them from the link in your results email. If you give us your email, we use it to send your results. The share buttons only share this calculator, never your results.

Don't let state law decide. Make up your own rules with your partner.
